I am a big fan of 12 step programs; they have helped countless friends and colleagues. If a program taylored for drinking, drugs, eating is worked, it can be a very effective way to live your life. Step two suggests: 2. "Came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity."
I believe the time has come where we need this advice in our city counsel. Take the whole bunch of them, who all seem to be jockeying for position of the Mayor's seat, wrap them in a blanket and throw them in the wind. There does not appear to be one voice of reason in our city of representatives right now, including my own riding, Josh Matlow, who has been on a witch hunt with Rob Ford from day one. The U.S. and Canada both seem to ride on the premise that people are guilty until proven innocent. Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of Mr. Ford-this Ford nation crap and the wall around it, angers me. On Talk Radio yesterday, the bullish brothers referred to the media as "maggots". Whatever happened to transparent government? But please....STOP IT.
Currently our city is not being run...period, end of story. All this nonsense about "business as usual" blah, blah, blah is insane. How can counsel possibly convince us our city is in running order right now with the firestorm around the Ford brothers, both from The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, various websites and the "court" of public opinion? We are in desperate need of an overhaul to our transit system; ours is a joke and if we could take a page from Tokyo Metro, Paris Metro, London's "the tube" or New York City's system, we could rightfully boast about being a world class city. As of this writing, the children are fist-fighting and it's a bloody mess.
Have a previous mayor that did good for our city, or the Province, or The Country step in and help us. I feel really desperate in writing this. We need a voice of reason, NOW.
We are the 5th largest city in North America and the antics at our City Hall this past week have made us the laughing stock of late night television. My beautiful, peaceful and multicultural city, laughed at. I love my city. We have court jesters in public office. This whole thing breaks my heart.
