Last night I had the priviledge of attending New Choir, a group of people who have gotten together for....fun. It was the 12th season and my friend, Brenda Johansen was one of the singers. There appeared to be about 150, altos, sopranos, tenors and base singers. New Choir (www.newchoir.ca) is musically directed by Scott Pietrangelo. The singers are not professional and the ages vary from early 20's to 70's. It's like I've said in the post before; we all need organizations and forums and to be around like-minded people. This was no exception. This seasons' production was Rockin' the Decades; the music ranged from the 70's through to the 2000. EVERYONE was smiling and having a great time; their rendition of Radiohead's CREEP was breathtaking.
When Brenda first mentioned this to me a few months ago, I so wanted to be in it. Alas, the season had started and I was too late. I have to tell you, though, I'm in for season 13! I am a good singer, not great, but can carry a tune. I decided early this year that I was going to become more involved in things that I love to do. I joined a mosaic class, I am signed up for additional classes through-out the summer at places in the U.S. and Canada. On September 12, I hope to be part of the choir ensemble with New Choir. Of course I will audition for leads! I mean, I still like to be front and centre afterall. However, even if I was not picked for a lead, the joy of singing was so evident on everyone's faces, that I will be happy to be part of the pack. There wasn't anyone that wasn't swaying or smiling. The finaly was Lady Gaga's Bad Romance-they even Glee-ed it up a bit and did some choreography. Fantastic, fun, lovely.
