How many times have I heard "this would make a great Seinfeld episode!" or "it was a Seinfeld moment." I have to admit, I started to watch Seinfeld very late in the game; I didn't get the concept of a show about nothing. I don't think I cottoned on to this program until the "master of my own domain" episode. Then, I got it.
How can a show about day to day stuff and really nothing be so incredibly successful that we still use phrases or think of things that happen in context to an episode? I believe for my age/generation it just resonated. My partner and I still say things in respect to that show. When I look back, I think about dates I had. I dated a close talker once like Elaine. It was like "get out of my personal space, man!" I've gone to fruit stores and really questioned the fruit selection, like Kramer with the papayas. I've had an over-full wallet like George where everything fell out and you go scrambling for that one receipt that you will inevitably need.
I also wonder if we look at those incredible characters and see ourselves. Who are you in the Seinfeld show? I can see myself in all of them; goofy and carefree sometime...Kramer, frugal sometime like George, uptight like Jerry, but, and not only because she's female, I believe I am most like Elaine. When I was younger, I dated often, trying to find the right fit. How many frogs did I kiss before I met my life partner? How often did I meet guys like the Wiz, who swept me off my feet because of a look yet there was not real substance there?
Anyway, who are you in Seinfeld?
