My "dog" place just happens to be around the corner from the new ReStore on Bermondsey Road. ReStores (www.torontorestores.ca) are a place to donate new or gently used renovation materials which in turn covers 100% of the overhead costs of operating Habitat for Humanity (Toronto). Every dollar donated to Habitat Toronto from the ReStores goes into building homes for families in need.
The store looked to be in its infant stages; so far, there is not a lot of selection of building material. I'd like to promote this through facebook. Any of us that have homes have "stuff" lying around in our basement that would be suitable for a ReStore. This includes windows, doors (I have wooden french doors in my basement-have been relucant to part with them but....), old electric fixtures, kitchen cabinets-you get the drift. The money from the ReStores pays for building homes for families. I have friends and family members who have donated their time to building a home. It's been an incredibly emotional experience for them (think Extreme Home Makeover in real life).
